Two hours of trail through Portofino Park, from the most photographed village in Italy to the abbey reachable only by sea or on foot. Medium difficulty, 250m elevation, constant sea panoramas.
The route
Trail stages, step by step.
Portofino start. From piazzetta climb to Castello Brown following "San Fruttuoso" signs. Well-marked trail, demanding initial climb to castle (15 min).
Castello Brown and Lighthouse. Continue past castle, optional detour to Portofino Lighthouse (10 min one way). Main trail proceeds east.
Cala dell Oro. Descent to small bay (45 min from start). Panoramic point, possible break. Trail continues with ups and downs.
Mill Base. Intermediate trail point (1h15 from start). Old mill ruins. From here final descent to San Fruttuoso starts.
San Fruttuoso arrival. Steep final descent (30 min) to bay with San Fruttuoso Abbey. Possible swim in summer. Restaurants, ferry for return.

How to safely tackle the trek.
Trail is well marked but some rocky sections need attention. No intermediate water points. Mobile coverage limited. Last Portofino ferry typically 5-6pm.
